The vineyards - belonging to Szent (Saint) Tamás Winery - were classified among the first ones in the world in the 1700s, and are considered to be the best ones in the region. Most of Szent Tamás’ wines are based on Furmint, one of the highest potential white grape varieties. The village of Mád is considered by many experts – domestic and international – to be the Furmint capital of Hungary, since the biggest achievements in the modern history of the Hungarian white wine are all connected to it.
The winery’s goal is to produce stylish wines that express the local minerality and that are easy drinking as well. Thanks to this innovative attitude, their wines represent the unique character of Mád to a wider audience of wine lovers. Their aim is to introduce new techniques and winemaking methods to the wines of the area whilst remaining true to their real historical values. To be worthy of this philosophy, they cooperate closely with local smallholders, and the winery’s team is made up of young locals who can identify easily with the Tokaj region’s traditions.
